DETAILS // The West Airside Road (WASR) is required by ADAC to provide an alternative secondary road connection between the MTB and Southside Terminals. The primary road connection between the MTB and the Southside Terminals follows an airside route through tunnels under taxiways and the Southern Runway. The tunnel under the Southern Runway is known as the Midfield Airside Road Tunnel (MART).

The WASR will be the used by Ground Service Equipment (GSE) and occasionally by in‐flight catering vehicles, cargo tugs, baggage carts etc. Fuel Bowsers will also use the WASR due to safety restrictions of the existing fire suppression system. The WASR will have the following functions:  
  • Occasional use by ADNOC fuel bowsers and fuel dispensers.
  • Routine security inspection vehicles.
  • Back-up to the MART route in case of tunnel closure.
  • Passenger baggage
  • Transfer baggage
  • EY crew busses.
  • Catering trucks
  • Goods service equipment
  • Cargo vehicles
  • Emergency service vehicles
  • Fire fighting vehicles.
